spring startup for sleeping cars...

Spring start-up.. ya.. its never a good idea to just crank and start a domant engine cause thats hell on the cylinder walls.. and the bearings.. well, for starters the crankcase should have a fresh sump of oil.. which you should have changed the following Fall.. anyways, make sure your battery is fully charged.. pull the spark plugs and shoot some Sea-foam or crc down there.. crank the engine with the plugs removed, to safely get the oil around everywhere without the load of compression on the pistons... then simply re-intall the plugs.. fire up the engine let it run at fast idle and take it up to temperature.. then simply change your oil again, since the engine was really never run.. you dont have to change the filter... and there you go.. you saved yourself the risk of ruining your engine! WOOT!

Kerosene works wonders.. :) just be sure NOT to spin the crank by hand with the spark plugs in place cause it might damage the bearings..!!!!

Lesson Learned

Ever break a main cap while torquing it down? Thats exactly what happened when i was putting the bottom end together on my Olds 425 big-block.... talk about some freakish casting flaw!! Yikes!! needless to say.. it was already align honed once... and it would cost wayyy tooo much to repair.. so i ended up parting out the 425 and making huge bank on it!! (which ill explain later how to do) so.. it wasnt a total loss, i made money on the 425 by parting it out and i used it towards the 455 which im currently running yay!!

The engine is from 1975 with the "smogger" J olds big block heads, im running and Edelbrock Performer "homemade" true dual exhaust.. any questions?
